Kuta Beach

Known as Bali’s capital of Surfing, Kuta beach has the best conditions to learn surfing. The average height of the waves and the sandy bottom make it a friendly beach for those who are just starting to surf. Kuta is the most famous beach in Bali, therefore it’s the most crowded. The good thing about this is that there are many lifeguards stationed along the beach. They are responsible to lookout after the beachgoers as well as surfers in the water. You will be joined with other beginner surfers, so don’t worry about being embarrassed. Everyone around you is just starting to surf! Just remember that all the professional surfers started as you are! Best time to surf here during the dry season (April to September).

Batu Bolong Beach, Canggu
If you want a quieter atmosphere than Kuta beach, Canggu is the place to be. The beach is located around 3 miles north of Kuta. When it comes to surfing, there are several spots in Canggu. However, for you beginners, it is best to head over to Batu Bolong beach.
This spot, however, is more challenging than Kuta or Seminyak beach as the waves can get quite big. So make sure you go over there when the forecast is not going to be big. We also recommend this place to those beginners who have tried surfing before. Make sure to stay with the other beginners, and if you are going out alone (not with the local trainers), ask the locals for some tips. Best time to surf Canggu is during the dry season, preferably in mid tide.

Medewi Beach

The surf spot is located on the west side of Bali, about three hours north of Kuta. Medewi is famous for its consistent long waves suitable for all levels. It is known by some to be similar to southern California waves. Always check the forecast before you go. The best swell for Medewi is the typical west coast South swell. Best time to go early in the morning for the light winds and less crowd.

Berawa Beach
Berawa is another well-known spot in the area of Canggu, just next to Batu Bolong Beach. The spot have similar characteristics with Batu Bolong suitable for novices, intermediate and advanced. It takes only around 5 minutes to get there from Batu Bolong. Head over for some fun rights and lefts waves. Best time to surf during mid-tide.

Situated slightly more to the north, Seminyak is included in the same stretch of Kuta beach. It has the same characteristics of Kuta beach—mellow waves, sandy bottoms, full of beginner surfers. Seminyak is known for its trendy atmosphere. Head over to Seminyak beach to surf as an alternative to Kuta. The best spot in seminyak is known as the Double six. Best to surf during the Dry season
